About the Client
Apator is a leading Polish group of companies operating in the energy sector. It specializes in advanced measurement devices and systems, as well as grid automation. The company is a leader in implementing Smart Grid solutions, offering intelligent meters for electricity, gas, heat, and water that enable remote utility management. Apator is also actively pursuing digital transformation by delivering proprietary IT systems for data analytics to the global market.
The Challenge
Apator Group’s previous website didn’t fully reflect the company’s operations, experience, and comprehensive offerings. Users reported difficulty finding the necessary information, understanding the scope of the offer, and navigating the website intuitively. The website also lacked e-commerce and educational sections.
Therefore, the project required strategic work from scratch – not only technological and functional reconstruction, but also changes in communication and streamlining the website’s structure.
Another important element was shifting away from the communication focused mainly on electricity, which had dominated the existing website. Apator Group provides solutions for all utilities, so the new website had to clearly present the company’s full range of competencies.
The Goal
Our main goal was to support the Apator Group in planning and building a consistent digital ecosystem. The project was not only about creating a new corporate website. It also involved planning two key areas for further development: a B2B e-commerce platform and an educational platform, Apator Academy.
That is why the strategic phase played such an important role. We needed to understand the direction of the company’s development, organize its broad offering, and present Apator Group as an organization that delivers solutions for all utilities.

What Did We Focus On?
We designed a new website as the first step in a broader ecosystem that could support corporate communication, product presentation, education, and future B2B sales.
To achieve that, we focused on several key areas:
- Building a consistent ecosystem – planning a corporate website, educational platform and B2B platform based on a single technology. In the first phase, we implemented the website; in the second, we launched the Apator Academy; and the final phase will be the B2B platform (which we are currently working on).
- Changing the communication – shifting away from the communication focused on electricity and presenting the Apator Group as a company that delivers solutions for all utilities.
- Creating intuitive information architecture – dividing the offer into key pillars: Electricity, Gas, Water and Heat, and Solutions and Software, along with a multi-level subcategory structure.
- Ensuring consistent offer presentation – organizing the way products, services, and solutions are displayed across the website.
- Preparing e-commerce architecture – developing the backend and frontend with e-commerce functionality in mind.
- Streamlining the editors’ workflow – implementing a modular content structure that allows Apator employees to manage the website and create new landing pages.

The Solution
Apator Group’s new corporate website required a comprehensive approach, from building a communication strategy to implementing advanced technological solutions.
What did the project look like step by step?
- Strategic workshops – we began with a series of meetings with various Apator Group departments to understand the company’s business goals, key challenges, and user needs.
- Communication strategy– based on the workshops, we developed a new, consistent communication framework that aligns with the direction Apator Group wants to take.
- System architecture – during this phase, we created an information structure and designed key user paths across the website.
- Graphic design – we prepared visual designs for the entire brand ecosystem.
- Copywriting – in parallel with design and development work, we prepared website content aligned with the new communication strategy.
- Implementation– we built a Drupal 11 website ready to manage a complex content structure, multiple language versions, and an extensive product catalog.
- Ecosystem development– Apator Group's new corporate website became the first element of a broader digital ecosystem, later expanded with an educational platform and planned B2B e-commerce.
- Support – after launch, we continue to provide support, development, and maintenance.

Strategic Workshops
We began the project by conducting 13 strategic workshops with representatives of various Apator Group departments, including HR, product and marketing teams, and the press office. These meetings allowed us to better understand the company’s structure, offering, target groups, and the key stakeholders’ goals. Our specialists from various departments – UX, development, and communication – also participated in the meetings. This allowed us to discuss the project from multiple perspectives simultaneously.
The workshops enabled us to develop a new communication strategy and lay the foundation for copywriting work. For the UX/UI area, they served as a starting point for designing the website’s architecture and lo-fi mockups. From a development perspective, they helped us refine the final scope of work and determine which features to include in the new website.

Developing the Website’s Foundations
In this phase, together with the client, we developed the key views’ structure and defined how users would navigate the offering. This resulted in the creation of a strategic document – the so-called website foundations.
The document helped us determine what information needed to appear on specific subpages, what function each element should serve, and how to maintain consistency between the information architecture, content, and final website design.

Resource Migration
Migrating the resources from the previous website was an important part of the project. We transferred over 850 files, including key PDF documents and graphic assets, while preserving the original folder hierarchy.
This was crucial due to the large number of technical materials used by website visitors. Product documentation, certificates, and instruction manuals had to be carefully organized so they would remain easy to find and correctly linked to the appropriate categories and products on the new platform.

Organized Offer Structure
One of the key aspects of the project was organizing Apator Group’s complex offering. We divided it into four main areas:
- Electricity
- Gas
- Water and Heat
- Solutions and Software
This makes it easier for users to understand the offer and quickly navigate to specific categories, products, technical parameters, and documentation.
To achieve this, we used Drupal’s taxonomy mechanisms that enabled us to manage the multi-level category structure and product relationships. As a result, the website is ready for further development without losing order in its information structure, and the entire process can be managed from the administration panel.

Modular Page Building System
We built the website using the Paragraphs module, which allows for easy creation of new landing pages. Editors can use pre-built components, arrange them in any order, and tailor the content to the specific needs of the subpage. This gives the Apator team greater flexibility in creating new content and speeds up publication time.

Content Translation Automation
We implemented a custom module that integrates the website with the DeepL API. The solution allows for translating the content without manually copying it to external tools. This significantly simplifies the development of the website’s international versions, especially when there are dozens of subpages to translate.
The solution does not replace editorial review, but it accelerates the initial stage of content development. As a result, the Apator Group team can publish content faster and scale communication beyond the Polish market more easily.

Dynamic File Library
We created a document repository based on AJAX technology. This allows users to quickly find and download the materials they need, such as instruction manuals, certificates, and other technical documents.
Despite the large number of files, the solution remains clear and easy to use. The documents are divided into four main areas: Electricity, Gas, Water and Heat, and Solutions and Software, along with additional subcategories. As a result, users do not have to browse the entire database and can quickly access the materials they need.

Integration with External Recruitment System
We integrated the website with an external recruitment system. As a result, employees do not have to manually add or update job offers in Drupal.
Instead, the website retrieves job postings from the HR system via an API every hour. This ensures that candidates always see up-to-date job offers on the website.

Hybrid Routing Mechanism
During the implementation, we used a Hybrid Routing mechanism. It allowed us to launch the new platform without migrating all language versions and sections at once.
As a result, the Polish version of the website could already run on Drupal 11, while selected older foreign-language versions were temporarily retrieved from the previous server. Users could still access the website through a single domain and a consistent URL structure, with no noticeable disruption to the website’s performance.
The Effects
The new corporate website became the foundation for Apator Group’s broader digital ecosystem.
This implementation was much more than just a new website. It was a multi-layered project that combined communication strategy, offer organization, copywriting, UX, and advanced development.
See the effects of our work:

Showcasing the full scope of the company’s operations and offering across all utilities.
Organized presentation of products, solutions, and technical materials.
Consistent communication tailored to the needs of different audiences.
A scalable digital ecosystem — a corporate website with an educational platform, ready to be expanded with a B2B platform.
A secure and stable technological environment based on Drupal 11.
The ability to independently create new subpages and landing pages.
