About the Client

Colas is an international company specializing in designing, building, and maintaining sustainable transport infrastructure. Each project is carried out with a strong commitment to the environment and local communities. Operating in Poland since 1997, the company has delivered numerous major investments in areas such as highways, expressways, airports, and urban spaces. In Poland, the company's scope of activities also covers railway infrastructure, aggregate mining, and the production of construction materials and asphalt emulsions.

The primary challenge was to create a website that presents Colas as an independent entity operating in Poland, yet consistent with the image of an international brand. The main goal was to showcase the company’s extensive history and the comprehensive scope of its operations, from large-scale infrastructure to aggregate mining.

An additional challenge was the lack of ready-made graphic designs. Our developers didn’t use mockups – their reference points were the live French website, the existing Colas Poland website, as well as corporate documents and the Group’s general guidelines. Based on these materials, we had to develop the website’s structure and layout in line with the technological requirements and brand identity.

Our goal was to support Colas in building a strong Polish brand, with a dual focus on acquiring new clients and strengthening its corporate image. The website was created to enable easy access to information about its widespread branch network in Poland, featuring an interactive map. The company's goal was also to improve communication by consolidating essential content into a single, well-structured platform. Additionally, the site needed to comply with top technological standards, offering full responsiveness, strong security, and adherence to best SEO practices.

Colas - project's goal
Background element

The company required a technology that would both ensure consistency with the global brand's standards and provide the flexibility to create content tailored to the needs of local branches. Since the Group's French website already runs on Drupal, adopting the same technology (specifically version 10) was a natural decision.

  1. The system provides extensive flexibility – both in content management and visual representation.
  2. Drupal ensures stability and straightforward maintenancethanks to the modular design, regular security updates, and active community support.
  3. The CMS offers complete control over access – the ability to precisely define roles (even for a single view!) is particularly valuable in companies like Colas, where the organizational structure is based on multiple departments and distributed operational teams.
  4. Open source excels at managing the performance of multi-level websites – while an attractive front-end is essential, a modern website must be built on a high-performance foundation to operate reliably and quickly. As a leading open-source CMS, Drupal delivers this through extensive caching mechanisms, database query optimization, and configuration tools customizable for specific workloads. :)
Colas - content migration

Content Migration

Significant discrepancies between the old site's content structure and the new website's architecture made automated content migration impossible. As a result, we performed a manual migration, ensuring consistency and alignment with the new structure.

Colas - contact tab

Extensive Contact Tab

We developed an interactive branch locator map that displays locations and contact details for all of the company's Polish offices. On the back-end, we configured Drupal entities to empower website administrators to easily add new locations themselves, without requiring developer assistance.

Built-in content reader

Built-in Content Reader

We have migrated a solution that worked well on the previous site. Using the speak-tts library, we implemented a voice-reading feature that supports people with reading difficulties.

Colas - interactive timeline

Interactive Timeline

Adjusting the styling and properly designed animations enabled a smooth transition between company events. Using the scroll wheel, users learn about the brand’s history.

Sliders

Sliders That Organize Extensive Text Sections

We eliminated large blocks of content in favor of more interactive solutions. Scrollable modules help organize information and shorten the page – they are lightweight and easy to read, despite the large amount of content.

Colas’ website is a combination of an organized structure with rich content

We met all the client’s expectations. The website aligns with the brand’s visual identity and is tailored to users’ needs. It allows contrast selection, font size adjustment, and line spacing control. Furthermore, a versatile set of content blocks and page layouts empowers the Colas team to present complex information in a clear, compelling, and readable format.
